End of Life Co-Experience Project
The End of Life Co-Experience Project (ELCEP) is an initiative which explores the shared, relational experiences that can arise for those close to someone who is dying.
Some people describe moments of heightened presence, connection, or altered awareness during the end-of-life period - not as the person who is dying, but as someone accompanying them: a family member, friend, or carer. These experiences are often subtle, deeply personal, and difficult to speak about. Many people hold them quietly, unsure how to name what happened.
ELCEP uses the term End-of-Life Co-Experiences (ELCE's) to describe these moments. The term is offered carefully, not as an explanation or belief, but as a way of acknowledging that end-of-life experiences can sometimes be relational rather than solitary, unfolding between people as well as within them.
This project does not seek to interpret, validate, or prove what these experiences mean. It is not a clinical service, a belief system, or a research study. Instead, ELCEP offers a gentle space for recognition, reflection, and language - allowing these experiences to be held with care and without pressure to explain them.
ELCEP accompanies the film Love Letter To Liverpool, which brings attention to the shared and relational dimensions of end-of-life experience through story rather than theory. Together, the film and the project invite a quieter conversation about how death may sometimes be encountered as a shared human event.
